In Living Memory

There are times in life, even here at beautiful Manyatta, when darker clouds gather and we are touched by the raindrops of sorrow and heartache. Only a few months ago I attended the memorial of a lovely lady called Debbie Ghaui. She was far too young to be taken from us and had ever so much yet to give, it was such a tragedy. However something amazing was to give this grey cloud a stunning silver lining...

Debbie loved everything in nature, especially her favourite Erythrina tree. So it was a fitting tribute that a basket of seed of this Erythrina tree, from Debbie’s beloved Kisolanza in the Southern Highlands, was handed out to us at the service. We were all asked to take some seed and grow those trees in memory of Debbie.

So with some sadness but also hope, I planted out 20 of these young trees on Manyatta last week. I will always think of Debbie when I look at this avenue of Erythrina. I will also keep Debbie’s memory alive as each time I introduce a person to Manyatta and they remark on this splendour.
